CIPAC 2026

CIPAC 26

The 15th China Intellectual Property Annual Conference (CIPAC) took place in Beijing on 8 and 9 September 2026, bringing together businesses, practitioners and policymakers from across the world.

Over two days, discussion centred on the questions reshaping the profession: how IP systems should respond to artificial intelligence from inventorship and authorship of AI-generated output to the use of protected works in model training, alongside trademark strategy in a fast-moving market, international cooperation on the protection of geographical indications, and the challenges facing the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors, where patent term, data exclusivity and enforcement remain closely watched.

A recurring theme was cross-border cooperation. With China among the world's largest filing jurisdictions, conversations around harmonisation, enforcement and mutual recognition carry real practical weight for rights holders everywhere.

Crystal Zhang, IP Legal Counsel at Inventa, was present at the CIPAC, and had the opportunity to meet and reconnect with IP professionals from across the industry and share latest insights and updates on intellectual property rights.
