According to recent information on the Portuguese Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) website, the 2024 edition of the SME Fund is scheduled to be launched on January 22nd. This is a measure by the European Commission, implemented by the EUIPO, aimed at encouraging SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) to leverage their intellectual property assets by developing strategies for protecting their respective rights at the national, regional and EU levels.
Upon application approval, vouchers can be activated to request partial reimbursement of fees related to the selected modalities. Since 2023, the SME Fund also partially reimbursed expenses incurred with pre-diagnosis of Industrial Property (IP) – IP Scan.
The estimated budget for the SME Fund in 2024 is 20 million euros for vouchers 1 and 2 (IP Scan and Trademarks and Designs) and 3 million euros for vouchers 3 and 4 (patents and plant varieties).
