KOSOVO: Changes to the Power of Attorney requirements

Since the 8th of June, 2016, the Industrial Property Office of Kosovo, one of the youngest countries in the world, has tighten its requirements for filing applications for protection of trademarks, designs, patents and other intellectual property rights.

So far it was possible for applicants to submit a scanned copy of the Power of Attorney to the PTO as proof of representation. However, as of now, Kosovo’s PTO is requesting that applicants submit an original Power of Attorney. It is also admissible that applicants provide a notarized copy the original Power of Attorney, as executed in their countries of origin. This change is being enforced effective immediately.

There have been several doubts that this change will endure, but for the time being we do recommend that an original and notarized Power of Attorney is provided.
