Vítor Palmela Fidalgo, Partner and Attorney at Law at Inventa and member of the Committee of Experts of the Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), attended the official inauguration of the PMAC, held on 1 and 2 June 2026 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, as part of the Unified IP Summit 2026.
The inauguration marks a significant step in the consolidation and maturity of the European patent system. The event brought together representatives from some of Europe’s leading institutions in the fields of justice, intellectual property, and the rule of law, including the President of the Republic of Slovenia, the President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, the President of the UPC Court of Appeal, the President of the European Patent Office (EPO), and the European Commissioner for Justice.
The Summit also featured the 1st PMAC Dispute Resolution Forum and a mock proceedings session, offering insight into the future of patent mediation and arbitration in Europe. As a member of the PMAC Committee of Experts, Vítor has contributed to the development of the Centre since 2024.
The PMAC has already begun the phased implementation of its services and will continue expanding its offering throughout 2026, supporting efficient and specialised dispute resolution within the European innovation ecosystem.
