Bemanya Twebaze, The Registrar General of Uganda Registration Services Bureau has just been elected President of the WIPO Advisory Committee on Enforcement.
The election of Bemanya, that has previously served as President of Paris Union Assembly of WIPO, is a remarkable achievement for Uganda.
The country has been improving the protection and enforcement of Intellectual Property (IP) rights. Since 2016, there were approximately 5.4 Million Dollars of seized infringing goods in this African jurisdiction.
During his acceptance speech Bemanya Twebaze has underlined the importance of IP enforcement, as a driver for innovation and creativity, thus for economic growth.
WIPO’s Advisory Committee on Enforcement was created in 2002 with the aim to provide technical assistance concerning IP enforcement actions.
