São Tomé and Príncipe - Accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement

On August 2, 2023, the government of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe deposited its instrument of accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin (AOs) and Geographical Indications (GIs), which will enter into force on November 2, 2023.

The Lisbon System for the International Registration of Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications is administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and offers a simplified and user-friendly means of obtaining protection for geographical indications or appellations of origin. Through a single registration procedure and a set of fees, protection can be obtained in other countries (and in international organizations, such as the European Union) covered by the Lisbon System.
