Regional Designs in Africa
Allows for a single design application to be effective across its designated members states
Created in 1976 under the Lusaka Agreement, the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) is an intergovernmental organization, based in Harare, Zimbabwe, that facilitates cooperation between its member states. The main objectives of this organization are the harmonization and development of industrial property laws and the establishment of greater cooperation between the Member States.
The intellectual property rights within ARIPO are currently divided in four protocols, including the Harare Protocol of 1984, which regulates industrial designs. ARIPO's industrial design applications shall designate the states in which the product is intended to be protected. Of the nineteen Member States, only seventeen ratified this Protocol.

Requirements
Application Requirements

- Deed of assignment, simply signed (if applicable).
- Certified copy of the priority document if claimed.
- Graphical representation.
Renewal Requirements
- Power of attorney, simply signed.
Assignment Requirements
- Power of attorney, simply signed.
- Deed of Assignment.
Change of Name Requirements
- Power of attorney, simply signed.
- Certificate of change of name.
Change of Address Requirements
- Power of attorney, simply signed.
- Certificate of change of address.
License Requirements
- License agreement.
- Power of Attorney signed by the Licensor.
Remarks: Documents should be accompanied by a verfied English translation.
